Matt and Laura go to see Golden Compass! - Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

On Wednesday 5th December, me and Matt went to see The Golden Compass..

It was AWESOME!

Our review:

Going to see The Golden Compass movie, we really didn't know what to expect. As such huge fans of the books we were nervous to see it transformed into a film, but needless to say we were pleasantly surprised.. It was ace!

We were really happy with how closely the film stuck to the plot of the book, with just a couple of changes (for the ending) which were obviously for the greater good of the film trilogy as a whole.

Dakota was perfect as Lyra, she was feisty and mischievous just like our beloved miss silvertongue! We were quite apprehensive for the characters of Mrs Coulter and Lord Asriel, but again we were really happy to see that Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig really understood the characters and definitely brought this into their performances..

The effects were amazing, the highlights of which were the bear fight and the battle at Bolvangar..

Five minute Golden Compass preview! - Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

The first five minutes of The Golden Compass are now available in a video on Yahoo. The preview shows Lyra and Roger at war with the Gyptians and the arrival of Lord Asriel at Jordan College. The first 5 minutes look so cool.. the rest of the film is in cinemas tomorrow!

KateBush records song for Golden Compass - Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Acclaimed british singer/songwriter Kate Bush will contribute an original song titled 'Lyra' to the end title credits of GC.

The song will be available for download as part of New Line records 'The Golden Compass' soundtrack, which will be released December 11th.

New Line using big money to promote GC.. - Thursday, November 8th, 2007

It's been reported that New Line is is putting forward $50 million to help promote 'The Golden Compass', which they feel is lacking the worldwide recognition that the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy had.

It seems they've been in touch with some possible brand partners including companies such as Coco-Cola, Wal-Mart and Amazon. In addition to this, New Line has joined with over 75 licensing partners to produce 'Golden Compass' toys, games, stationary, books and electronics.

Philip Pullman defends Golden Compass - Thursday, November 8th, 2007

In his appearance on the 'Today' show, Philip Pullman implicitly denied that his work is selling "athieism for kids".

“Well, you know, I always mistrust people who tell us how we should understand something. They know better than we do what the book means or what this means and how we should read it and whether we should read it or not,” said Pullman.

“I don’t think that’s democratic,” he continued. “I prefer to trust the reader. I prefer to trust what I call the democracy of reading – when everybody has the right to form their own opinion and read what they like and come to their own conclusion about it. So I trust the reader.”

Pullman interview on Richard & Judy - Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

This Thursday Philip Pullman will appear Channel 4's Richard Judy’s Book Club at 8pm. Authors Anthony Horowritz and Jacqueline Wilson will also be on the programme. Pullman will be back on Richard & Judy in their Best Kids’ Books Ever programme on 28 October.

We will try to get some stills or footage of the interview.
